Santa's Vacation

Santa Claus needed a vacation. He decided to go to Texas because it was warm and he had heard that the people were friendly. As soon as he arrived in town, people began to point and say, "Look, the big red one! Isn't he someone famous?

Santa thought, "Gee, I'll never get any rest if people start asking to sit on my lap and try to tell me things they want." So he decided to disguise himself. He bought a cowboy outfit complete with cowboy boots and cowboy hat.

"No one will know me now, I look just like everyone else!" he thought happily.

As soon as Santa started walking down the street people began to point and say, "Look! It's that famous Christmas personality!" Santa rushed around a corner to hide.

"It's my beard!" he thought. "They recognize me because of my long white beard!" So Santa went to a barbershop and had his beard shaved off. "I really look like everybody else now!" Santa thought.

So he walked down the street with a big smile on his face. Suddenly a man shouted, "It's him! It's him! Look everybody!"

Santa couldn't believe it. He was sure that no one would recognize him. So Santa walked up to the man and said, "How did you recognize me?"

The man looked at Santa and said, "You? I don't know you, but isn't that four-legged guy with the big red nose behind you Rudolph?"

Crying In The Night

Do you hear what I hear? Crying in the night.
A babe is born in Bethlehem. What a wonderous sight!
A star shines brightly to lead the way to Him.
Wise men travel by the light; God is leading them.

Lying in a manger, no room at the crowded inn.
His short life on earth was about to begin.
What a story this would be all through the ages,
One that would fill many of our Bible pages.

This tiny Babe, wrapped in His Father’s love,
Sent to us from heaven far, far above.
Oh yes how perfect He was in every way,
Sent to give His life just for us someday.

He was a gift from God to this world we live in,
His only begotten Son, to save us from sin.
Oh, how He loves us! The pain and scorn He bore,
So we could have the chance of life evermore.

All the miracles He did while He lived on the earth,
Was why God gave us this most holy birth.
It showed that our God in heaven was with us each day,
And taught many people how to kneel and pray.

I cry when Christmas leaves our Jesus out,
After all, Jesus is what Christmas is about.
Not lights and trees or gifts we really can’t afford,
This Christmas let us see if we can worship our Lord.

My Oh My - It's Christmas!

A huge thank you to Norma for this humorous holiday poem - Enjoy

Somebody spiked the eggnog,
Wonder who it could be?
Hey! I’m innocent of the prank,
Don’t you dare look at me!
Just ‘cause I’m lying on the floor,
Doesn’t mean a dog gone thing.
I’m just waiting for Santa Clause,
To see what goodies he’ll bring.

Somebody got to the Christmas goose,
And ate all of the crispy brown skin.
I think it was cunning old Rover the dog,
But no! All eyes are on me once again!
Why is it when anything happens here,
Everyone always thinks to blame me?
Just because one time a few years ago,
I took the candy from the Christmas tree!

Somebody took his cookies and milk,
Why are you looking at me like that?
I don’t even like the snack you leave,
Maybe it was eaten by that sneaky cat!
Just because I’m bloated and smiling,
Doesn’t mean I’ll stay this fat and round.
So cast your eyes at someone else,
‘Cause I’ve not gained a single pound!

Somebody told Santa that only I live here,
How very greedy some people are.
Now you know It's not my doing,
If my name is on the tag of a brand new car!
Just because I’m wearing a silly grin,
Means I’m happy that Christmas is near,
Now stop blaming me it won’t be my fault,
If I get all the wonderful gifts this year!

The Christmas Story - St. Luke 2:1- 21

The Christmas Story

St. Luke 2:1- 21

1. And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.

2. (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)

3. And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.

4. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)

5.To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.

6. And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.

7. And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

8. And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

9. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.

10. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

11. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

12. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

13. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,

14. Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

15. And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.

16. And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.

17. And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.

18. And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.

19. But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.

20. And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.

21. And when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, his name was called JESUS, which was so named of the angel before he was conceived in the womb.

Christmas at Rock-Away Rest

'Twas the night before Christmas at Rock-Away Rest,
and all of us seniors were looking our best.
Our glasses, how sparkly, our wrinkles, how merry;
Our punchbowl held prune juice plus three drops of sherry.

A bedsock was taped to each walker, in hope
That Santa  would bring us soft candy and soap.
We surely were lucky to be there with friends,
Secure in  this residence and in our Depends.

Our grandkids had sent us some Christmasy crafts,
Like angels in snowsuits and penguins on rafts.
The dental assistant had borrowed our teeth,
And from them she'd crafted a holiday wreath.

The bed pans, so shiny, all stood in a row,
Reflecting our candle's magnificent glow.
Our supper so festive -- the joy wouldn't stop --
Was creamy warm oatmeal with sprinkles on top.

Our salad was Jell-O, so jiggly and great,
Then puree of fruitcake was spooned on each plate.
The social director then had us play games,
Like "Where  Are You Living?" and "What Are Your Names?"

Old Grandfather Looper was feeling his oats,
Proclaiming that reindeer were nothing but goats.
Our resident wand'rer was tied to her chair,
In hopes that at bedtime she still would be there.

Security lights on the new fallen snow
Made outdoors seem noon to the old folks below.
Then out on the porch there arose quite a clatter
(But we are so deaf that it just didn't matter).

A strange little fellow flew in through the door,
Then tripped on the sill and fell flat on the floor.
'Twas just our director, all togged out in red.
He jiggled and chuckled and patted each head.

We knew from the way that he strutted and jived
Our social- security checks had arrived.
We sang -- how we sang -- in our monotone croak,
Till the clock tinkled out its soft eight-p.m. stroke.

And soon we were snuggling deep in our beds.
While nurses distributed nocturnal meds.
And so ends our Christmas at Rock-Away Rest.

'fore long you'll be with us,
We wish you the best.
