Storytime Day 12: Bubba Claus

A Note from Santa Claus I regret to inform you that, effective immediately, I will no longer serve the States of Georgia, Florida, North and South Carolina, New Mexico, Arizona, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, Texas, and Arkansas on Christmas Eve. Due to the overwhelming current population of the earth, my contract was renegotiated by North American Fairies and Elves Local 209. As part of the new and better contract I also get longer breaks for milk and cookies so keep that in mind. However, I'm certain that your children will be in good hands with your local replacement, who happens to be my third cousin, Bubba Claus. His side of the family is from the South Pole. He shares my goal of delivering toys to all the good boys and girls; however, there are a few differences between us. Differences such as: 1. There is no danger of the Grinch stealing your presents from Bubba Claus. He has a gun rack on his sleigh and a bumper sticker that reads:"These toys insured by Smith and Wesson." 2. Instead of milk and cookies, Bubba Claus prefers that children leave an RC cola and pork rinds or a moon pie on the fireplace. And Bubba doesn't smoke a pipe. He dips a little snuff though, so please have an empty spit can handy. 3. Bubba Claus' sleigh is pulled by floppy-eared, flyin' coon dogs instead of reindeer. I made the mistake of loaning him a couple of my reindeer one time, and Blitzen's head now overlooks Bubba's fireplace. 4. You won't hear "On Comet, on Cupid, on Donner and Blitzen.." when Bubba Claus arrives. Instead, you'll hear, "On Earnhardt, on Andretti, on Elliott and Petty." 5. "Ho, Ho, Ho!" has been replaced by "Yee Haw!" And you also are likely to hear Bubba's elves respond, "I her'd dat!" 6. As required by Southern highway laws, Bubba Claus' sleigh does have a Yosemite Sam safety sticker on the back with the words "Back Off." 7. The usual Christmas movie classics such as "Miracle on 34th Street" and "It's a Wonderful Life" will not be shown in your negotiated viewing area. Instead, you'll see "Boss Hogg Saves Christmas" and "Smokey and the Bandit IV" featuring Burt Reynolds as Bubba Claus. And Finally, 8. Bubba Claus doesn't always wear a belt. A Christmas tree doesn't care how many other Christmas trees you have had in the past. Christmas trees don't get mad if you use exotic electrical devices. A Christmas tree doesn't care if you have an artificial one in the closet. ------------- A Christmas tree doesn't get mad if you break one of its balls.You can feel a Christmas tree before you take it home. When you are done with a Christmas tree you can throw it on the curb and have it hauled away. ------------- A Christmas tree doesn't get jealous around other Christmas trees.You don't have to put up with a Christmas tree all year long. A Christmas tree is always erect.Even small ones give satisfaction ------------- A Christmas tree stays up for 12 days and nights. It looks good - even with the lights on. And last but not least... Louise Lenore

I'm a little mouse named Bubba And I've got a story to tell It all began one Christmas Eve Back in nineteen hundred twelve. I was just a youngster then With brothers and sisters galore We had a very serious problem With a cat named Louise Lenore. She was mean as a grizzly bear We were but tender morsels for her But when farmer Brown came around She would rub against his leg and purr. He would feed her milk and cheese And she would curl up by the fire But she always kept one eye open Our circumstances were quite dire. Because of Louise, we were starving Our pantry was completely bare We were afraid to leave our doorway And venture into the world out there. I remember that Christmas Eve with clarity Farmer Brown was sitting in his chair He was reading "The Christmas Story" To his children, with Louise sitting there. I heard the words "love" and "sharing" As well as "God's Gift" and "angels glistening" And I saw a funny look in Louise's eye It was just as if she were really listening. We went to bed early that night Dreaming mouse dreams of Christmas morn Hoping for presents under our tree of A chunk of cheese or a piece of corn. The next morning we woke up early To a piece of cheese stuffed in our door There was a note attached that read "Merry Christmas," Louise Lenore! We never really knew for sure If the Christmas spirit came over her But ever since that Christmas Eve When she see us she begins to purr! Janey Hauck
